Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago, located in Glenview, Illinois, was founded in 1985 on the unshakeable belief that every child deserves to discover the transformational power of creativity and imagination. Everything we do is about inspiring a love of learning in young children up to age 8. And we believe that play is the way:

• Hands-on, interactive, collaborative, play
• Play that stretches children’s imagination
• Play that lets them pretend
• Play that feeds their curiosity
• Complex, research-based, self-directed play
• Fun, captivating, giggle-inducing play
• Play that mixes physical, emotional, imaginative, cognitive and social experiences to spark a love of learning that never goes away. It just grows.

This is an extraordinary play space that brings the world down to size for children. And lets them rule the world. Every one of the 17 interactive exhibits is a play station that ignites curiosity, inspires imagination and stirs creativity with exciting learning experiences that engage and nurture young minds. And there’s just one rule: Children make the rules.

As one of the Chicago area’s premier cultural institutions, Kohl Children’s Museum plays a leadership role in early childhood development. Our leadership demands that we make our commitment to nurture a love of learning in children as accessible as possible.

That means all children. Our outreach work is elemental to who we are and defines this commitment. We move the museum outside our walls to reach the underserved in the city with substantive training, programs and activities. We provide professional training to help develop stronger early childhood educators in low-income neighborhoods. We thoughtfully create engaging learning experiences that welcome children with special needs and their families. We produce exhibits and programs that provide immersion in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Design, and Mathematics) learning environments. We reconnect children with the great outdoors and help them discover nature’s way of teaching.

Our job is to harness the power of play and use it to jump-start the next generation. Like the young minds we serve, we challenge ourselves to grow and embrace the changes in the world to create the best learning experiences possible for young children and their families. The future of our country is in the hands of the young hearts and minds of the children who love our museum. We’re not just a kid’s museum. We’re an incubator for transforming young minds into creative thinkers, learners and leaders.
